Zikalala takes over after KZN Premier Mchunu collapses during speech

PIETERMARITZBURG, February 27 – KwaZulu-Natal African National Congress (ANC) chairperson Sihle Zikalala had to take over the presentation of the State of the Province Address after provincial premier Willies Mchunu collapsed midway through his report at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday.

In what many expected to be his last address, Mchunu asked for Zikalala to continue with his speech as he was not well.

Mchunu’s health has deteriorated over the years and last year he missed the opening of the legislature owing to ill health, and for most of January Zikalala was acting premier.

Mchunu became premier  in May 2016 replacing Senzo Mchunu. (ANA)
