Cape Town man arrested in Steenberg with unlicensed firearm

CAPE TOWN, April 8 – A man has been arrested in Steenberg in Cape Town after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Western Cape police said on Sunday.

“Last night [Saturday] the dedication of operation combat members to remove criminals from the streets of Steenberg resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old man for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” Lt-Col Andrè Traut said.

During routine patrols at about 6 pm, the suspect was spotted in Elista Road, Steenberg “acting very suspiciously”, which prompted a search. He was found with a .38 special revolver and five rounds of ammunition. He would appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Traut said.
