Africa News 24-7 has reliably been informed that a top former executive at Lepelle Northern Water Board is among a group of suspects nabbed by police today.
The former top executive, who cannot be named until he appears in court, is part of a group that was arrested for their alleged involvement in corruption and maladministration.
Africa News 24-7 understands that police are looking for two more suspects and that more arrests were likely to follow in the Eastern Cape where similar cases have been opened against former executives of Amatola Water Board.
It is understood that despite political meddling aimed at derailing criminal cases in which the former Amatola Water Board Executive is implicated, police were expected to make arrests soon.
A source in the Human Settlement, Water and Sanitation Department said the arrests were part of Minister Lindiwe Sisulu’s ongoing anti-corruption and clean up campaign of the water boards and the department itself.
Contacted for a comment Sisulu said: “We told you we would clean up the department. We were mocked and maligned all the way by the culprits and the media . “
This is a developing story…
