London – Prime Minister Theresa May says lawmakers should vote for the Brexit deal she has agreed with the EU or risk Britain remaining in the European Union.
May urged the lawmakers to put “democracy … before party faction or personal ambition,” amid expectations that many eurosceptics from her Conservative party and most opposition members of parliament will vote against her deal.
“It’s very clear, we’ve already seen a vote in this house that has said no to no deal,” she told parliament’s main elected house, the Commons, ahead of a vote on the deal.
May has promised to hold a vote on leaving the EU without a deal on Wednesday if she loses Tuesday’s vote.
“And I think everybody needs to recognize – for those who want, genuinely, to deliver Brexit – that actually if this deal does not go through tonight, then this house risks no Brexit at all,” she said. (dpa)
