GOLD COAST, Australia, April 14 (ANA) – Clint Hendricks added another bronze medal to SA’s tally as he sprinted to third place in the 168.3km cycling road race at the Commonwealth Games at Australia’s Gold Coast on Saturday.
Hendricks, the 2016 Cape Town Cycle Tour winner, finished in three hours 57 minutes and one second, the same time allocated to the top nine finishers, with Australian Steele von Hoff taking gold and Jonathan Mould of Wales grabbing the silver.
Von Hoff’s story is a remarkable one having recovered from four broken vertebrae in a high speed racing crash seven weeks back to be fit in time to chase his Commonwealth dream, earning him the nickname ‘Man of Steele’.
Brendon Davids finished 18th in 3:57.58 with Bradley Potgieter in 27th place in 3:59.08.
Nicholas Dlamini ended in 86th spot over the tough route, while Nolan Hoffman failed to finish.
