Recently, Toyota South Africa brought out its improved Fortuner portfolio. A new derivative was added and that is the 2.4 GD-6 4×4 6AT. As per the sales figures of the national new vehicle, the Toyota Fortuner is South Africa’s popular SUV and the car accounts for a visible 49% share in the segment of medium-size SUV. To the customer, there is a choice of 2 specification levels and 4 engines.
The engine lineup at present comprises petrol motors in the forms of a 2.7-litre VVTi and a 4.0-litre V6. If you are a turbodiesel fan, you are offered with 2.4 GD-6 and 2.8 GD-6 derivatives. This range expanded recently and it includes a 2.4-litre GD-6 4×4 automatic derivative that provides buyers with a 4×4 capability at a reasonable price. As a matter of fact, the 2.4 GD-6 4×4 automatic has a price of R506 000 which is around R127 500 economical than the 2.8 GD-6 4×4 automatic (R633 500). This Fortuner 2.4 GD-6 4×4 automatic provides 110 kW and 400 Nm. It claims that it consumes only 8.2 L/100 km as it has an 80-liter fuel tank which sits at 900 km per fill-up.
Toyota has always been all ears to the customer feedback. And the company has always worked on improving safety specification on the 2.4 GD-6 and 2.7-litre derivatives. Some of the other additions are – Side and curtain airbags (total airbag – 7), dual front airbags, driver’s knee airbag, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Trailer Sway Control (TSC).
The 2.8 GD-6 and V6 derivatives have the convenience of an electrically-operated tailgate and a 220V accessory connector. The company has also got LED fog lamps that complement the LED headlights over the standard equipment like Bluetooth, Smart Entry, USB, leather interior, multi-information display, 3rd-row seating and cruise control.
The top-spec derivatives come equipped with the reverse-view camera, automatic climate control, leather, and wood trimmed steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system, electric driver’s seat adjustment, extra soft-touch finishes, and full-color TFT multi-information display. The 2.8 GD-6 4×4 automatic derivative is powerful and adequate. The engine is refined and it gives a good ride.
