JOHANNESBURG- The debate regarding two centres of power within the African National Congress is just a ploy to have Jacob Zuma removed as the president of the country.

That is the sentiment of the Umkhonto We Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) following renewed calls for Zuma to step down to avoid the issue of two centres of power.

The league’s president, Kebby Maphatsoe used provincial leadership structures as examples to explain that the matter was not a concern. There are provinces where the chairpersons are not premiers.

“I don’t know why you want to make it an issue at a national level when at provincial level there is no problem. Comrade Sylvia Lucas in the Northern Cape is the premier and they are just from a conference, but she was not removed. There is a chairperson there and they are working very well. You have here in Gauteng, the chairperson of the ANC, fortunately now he has been promoted and he is the treasurer general of the ANC, there was never a problem,” said Maphatsoe.

Other provinces where the chairperson is not a premier include Limpopo where Stan Mathabatha is the premier while Knocks Seabi is the provincial chairperson and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Maphatsoe said the call for Zuma to vacate office at the Union Buildings to avoid a scenario of two centres of power was just an indication there is an agenda against him.

“There was nothing like why the chairperson can’t become the premier. KZN, the same thing is happening. The chairperson there is not the premier, but they are working very well. You now ask yourself why this one? It tells you clearly that there is an agenda against the old man, that he must be removed by hook or crook,” he said.

Maphatsoe also urged people to read Gayton McKenzie’s explosive, Kill Zuma by any means necessary to fully grasp the extent of why there are efforts to have him removed from power. McKenzie released the book in December. The book details failed attempts on Zuma’s life.

“That is why it’s important that you must read that book Kill him by any means necessary. Then you will get why there is this concerted effort that the president must be removed but I don’t want to go there. Read it and come to your own conclusion whether it is relevant or not,” he said.
