TUT Soshanguve students on strike

PRETORIA, March 4 – Thousands of students from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) marched from the Soshanguve north campus to the south campus on Monday morning, demanding that all National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) beneficiaries who reside on campus be given meal allowances directly.

They want the money paid into the bank accounts of students directly.

The students formed a chain as they were marching singing struggle songs and carrying sticks.

Upon their arrival at the south campus, they burned tires at the gate before pushing the gates open.

Only two security guards were visible and they moved after being overwhelmed by the students.

The students also demanded that higher certificate students be accommodated at the residences.

They also want the court interdict to be withdrawn by the institution which prohibits the students from disrupting classes.
