PRETORIA, September 21 – At least ten people were killed on Friday morning, and 34 others were injured when a bus overturned on the N1 southbound highway, approximately 20km outside of Polokwane in the Limpopo province, according to ER24 paramedics.
“ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene to find a large bus lying on its side on the side of the road. Numerous people were found lying scattered around the vehicle.
Paramedics immediately set up a triage area and began to secure the scene,” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.
“Upon assessment, paramedics discovered that ten people had sustained numerous, fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.”
Of the 34 injured, Meiring said five passengers had sustained critical injuries while 29 others had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
“Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment,” he said.
“The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”
Earlier this week, another bus crash claimed 11 lives in Limpopo. The bus was travelling from Zambia.
