JOHANNESBURG- Swift action by police has led to the recovery of a vehicle moments after it was hijacked in Matshwi village in Bolobedu.
According to police, the victim, his girlfriend and a younger brother were travelling in a Red Audi A3 TSFI and when they arrived at their homestead, they were confronted by three armed suspects who demanded the car keys.
“The suspects drove the vehicle with the three victims inside and along the Tzaneen – Kgapane road, they stopped and ordered them to disembark from the
vehicle. The suspects then drove in the direction of Lenyenye outside Tzaneen where the police, doing their regular stop and searches in Maake policing area, stopped this vehicle at Mohlahlareng village. The suspects immediately jumped out and fled into the bushes, abandoning the vehicle,” Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.
The vehicle was searched and a 9mm revolver and various assortment of items including the hijacked vehicle were recovered.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nneke Ledwaba applauded the officers for the swift recovery of the vehicle and urged them to trace the suspects. He further urged and encouraged other members to emulate this kind of continuous operations such as stop and searches as these will always yield positive results.
“Police investigations are continuing and anyone with information about the suspects is requested to contact the nearest Police Station or Colonel Cecil Machimane on 082 451 7181 or the toll-free number 086001011 or the crime line sms 32211,” said Ngoepe.
