JOHANNESBURG, May 3 – International Relations and Cooperation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has extended her condolences to the Khumalo family and the entire university community after the tragic fatal shooting of their daughter and fellow student, Zolile Khumalo.
The 21-year-old Zolile was allegedly shot dead by her 23-year-old former partner on campus following what police are describing as a “domestic quarrel”.
Sisulu, who is also the Chancellor of Mangosuthu University Technology (MUT), on Thursday condemned the murder of the first-year quantity surveying student, who was murdered at her university residence in Lonsdale in Durban CBD.
“I feel deep sympathy for her parents, family, and friends, it is painful and very sad. We must do more to protect women from being murdered by partners or former partners,” said Sisulu.
“We trust that the judicial system will take necessary steps and send a clear message to perpetrators that South Africans are tired of such senseless killings will not tolerate them.”
The alleged shooter has been arrested and is expected to appear in court Thursday.
