JOHANNESBURG- The African National Congress (ANC) on Tuesday, condemned the baseless and reckless claims made by the State Security Minister, Dipuo Letsatsi Duba that the Secretary-General of the ANC, Ace Magashule had tampered with the candidates’ list that was submitted to the IEC.
The submission of the final ANC candidates list by Magashule, was in his official capacity as a standard procedure since the Secretary-General of the ANC by virtue of his office presides over this as one of his responsibilities as chair of such process.
“The ANC finds it shocking and reckless in the extreme for the Minister of State Security to make baseless and reckless claims that the Secretary-General of the ANC, comrade Ace Magashule, had tampered with the official list of ANC candidates that he as the Secretary-General submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission on Wednesday the 13th of March 2019,” the ANC said in a statement.
“Comrade Letsatsi-Duba runs an important Ministry. We welcome the President’s initiatives to restructure the Intelligence Services and to ensure that the Intelligence Services are not used for personal political gains.
“Unfortunately, her behaviour shows recklessness and political factionalism, which contradicts the initiatives of President Ramaphosa.”
The African National Congress further added that the Secretary-General has been trying to engage with the State Security Minister for the past two days and that she has hitherto not responded to any of his messages.
According to the ANC, the Minister leaves the movement with no option but to insist on a public apology from her, thus correcting the reckless claims peddled.
