Guards who beat theft suspect to death appear in Mpumalanga court


JOHANNESBURG, October 9 – Two guards aged between 24 and 28 who allegedly beat to death a person they caught stealing from business premises in Hammersdale, KwaZulu-Natal, are expected to make their first appearance in the Mpumalanga Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

“It is alleged that on Saturday, 6 October 2018, a suspect was caught stealing from business premises in Hammersdale. He was allegedly caught and assaulted by the security guards. The deceased was assaulted with iron bars and sticks and he died at the scene,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.

“Police responded to the complaint and the suspects were arrested for murder. Police would like to appeal to the community not to take the law into their own hands.”
